I’m writing this from a quiet house

Kids went back to school today and it is almost too quiet to concentrate. It has been months of extreme multitasking while working from home, homeschooling, parenting and dealing with the pandemic rollercoaster.

2021 so far…

I am not going to sugar coat it. The last few months (ok, year) have been tough and personally very stressful. Apart from missing my family terribly, work wise, all my bookings for in person sessions, branding photoshoots, photography workshops were cancelled and put on hold. I have been able, however, to keep the studio open for product photography. You know how it works. Companies send me their products by post, we discuss the job via zoom or email, I work on the product images and I send the products back. It is a very easy and convenient process.

Most of the work I’ve done for the past couple of months has been jewellery. It’s probably one fo the most technically challenging subjects to photograph. I see some of you jewellery designers nodding behind your screen. You know what I mean! Beside the technical challenges of working with metal in terms of reflections, working with small pieces also require very specific photographic equipment, software, lighting/editing skills, patience and a very clear head.

Without getting technical, let me tell you one fun fact. Each image you see below, is made up of 20-30 images of the same piece to achieve perfect focus and detail.

These are some other samples of jewellery I recently photographed on a light grey neutral background (because pure white is not always the nicest!) I love how the softness and textures of these pieces of Sea Glass from Donegal shine through in these photos.

Product images are necessary for listings and e-commerce but one of the requests I get the most are lifestyle images. Photos of your products in context. This is something I enjoy immensely although it requires a lot more planning, sourcing, time styling, researching, generating ideas, etc.

This is a project I completed recently for an Irish company producing natural wax candles and reed diffusers.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing returning clients. These are some images I am working on for Josies Botanicals. I loved what she said on Instagram during the week:

I firmly believe we can't do everything. I've become so much better at looking for help and really believe its worth getting people who are the best at what they do. @anadorado is such a lady. I adore working with Ana, her product photography is so amazing, and she really shows your products and business in such an amazing light. Thank you so much Ana for all you've done for me and Josie's Botanicals ❤🌿
